Windsor Great Park is part of the operational Windsor Estate that covers around 1,942 hectares (4,800 acres). Once a vast Norman hunting forest, Windsor Great Park is now enjoyed by millions of visitors each year as a place to enjoy their favourite outdoor activity.

Sharing the space together

We want everyone who visits Windsor Great Park to have a safe and enjoyable experience.

To help achieve this, we ask you to follow a few simple rules designed to protect you, other visitors, and the unique habitats of this historic Estate.

Public access to Windsor Great Park and Forest is governed by bylaws which can be viewed here.

Stay safe

Vehicles

Aside from residents, staff, and those on authorised Estate business, vehicles are not permitted to drive into Windsor Great Park. Please pay special attention to roads especially when visiting with children and dogs.

Please keep to the paths

Trees may shed branches, especially in high winds. Please keep to the main paths and check visitor updates before you travel.

Swimming

The water in Windsor Great Park can be dangerously cold. For your own safety and the safety of others, please do not enter the lakes.

Horse riding tracks

Horses can be easily spooked. For your safety and that of the horse riders and horses, please keep off the horse riding tracks.

Barbecues and open flames

To protect the landscape and forest from fires, barbecues and open flames of any kind are not permitted.

Public access

Public access to Windsor Great Park and Forest is governed by bylaws which can be viewed here.

Do not drive into Windsor Great Park

Only authorised vehicles are permitted within Windsor Great Park. If your satnav directs you through one of our gates, please continue around the Estate until it finds the correct route.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome in designated areas of Windsor Great Park and the wider Estate. View more information about dog walking here.

Cyclists

Cyclists are welcome in designated areas of Windsor Great Park and Swinley Forest. View more information about cycling here.

Do not disturb our anglers

Anglers of the Windsor Great Park Carp Fishing Syndicate have designated areas around our lakes where they can fish. Please respect their privacy.

Private areas

Please respect areas on the Windsor Estate that are marked private.

Drones are not permitted

Filming and photography with a drone/s are not permitted in Windsor Great Park and on the wider Estate. View more information about filming and photography here.

Protect this unique and ancient environment

Habitat

The Windsor Estate is a protected habitat for many unusual plant and animal species. Please do not pick flowers, remove or disturb plants, fungi or fallen timber.

Litter, dog waste and recycling

Please help us to keep the Windsor Estate both green and clean for everyone to enjoy. Dog waste bins and litter bins are available across Windsor Great Park, ideally, please come prepared to take your litter home with you.

Gazebos, marquees and tents are not permitted

Unauthorised structures can cause damage to the landscape as well as the enjoyment of Windsor Great Park to other visitors. Gazebos, marquees, tents, and any other structures are not permitted.

Barbecues and open flames

To protect the landscape and forest from fires, barbecues and open flames of any kind are not permitted.

Home Park Public

If you are visiting Windsor and would like to park in the main town centre, Home Park Public is a short walk away from from shops and cafes and the Theatre Royal.

The Crown Estate will not tolerate any form of abuse towards our people whilst they are engaged in their duties and will take action with visitors who do not respect their reasonable requests.
