Running in Windsor Great Park
Windsor Great Park offers runners a huge variety of routes, terrains and gradients – as well as a half-marathon each September.
Whether you are a beginner or a regular runner, you’ll find the perfect challenge in Windsor Great Park. Here are a couple of recommended routes to get you started.
The Long Walk
Accessed via the Cambridge Gate in Windsor Town Centre, the Long Walk offers over 2.5 miles (4.2km) of tarmac path from Windsor Castle to the top of Snow Hill.
Set your pace and enjoy a gentle incline that climbs towards the Copper Horse, where a final push will reward you with exhilarating views.
As you stop for a break, look out for the tree canopies, Eton College and the distant arch of Wembley stadium.
Virginia Water Lake
If you’re looking for a mid-length workout, the 4.5 mile (7 km) woodland route around Virginia Water may fit the bill.
Start at Virginia Water Pavilion and choose left for the Leptis Magna Ruins, or right for the wild forests and flowerbeds of The Valley Gardens. If you do the whole route, you’ll see both in any case.
And, however far you decide to run at Virginia Water, the Pavilion will always be ready and waiting to greet you with a welcome drink and a snack.
