A progressive independent commercial business, created by Act of Parliament. Our portfolio includes the whole of Regent Street and much of St James’s in London’s West End, prime regional shopping centres, Windsor Great Park, rural land and coastline, and the UK’s seabed.
The Windsor Great Park Open Day is a biennial event which shows children from local schools the different aspects that are involved in the management of a large rural estate like Windsor Great Park.
This is a very positive and educational engagement with our local schools, which has proved extremely popular in past years. The next Windsor Great Park Open Day will be June 2018, and we will have a wide range of activities and displays taking place during the day.
Many of our departments get involved, including farms, forestry, parks and gardens, buildings, game and conservation. Visiting schools will have the opportunity to view or get involved in a number of different activities* – for example, climbing trees in harnesses with our arboriculture team; going up to the treetops in a Moving Elevated Work Platform; designing a garden or getting to know our Jersey cows, piglets, sheep, ferrets and husky dogs.
* Please note, not every child will be able to participate in every activity
We will also have many different displays going on throughout the day – covering everything from plumbing and brickwork displays with our buildings team, to gun dog displays and fly fishing demonstrations. There will also be a series of fascinating talks, on subjects such as bee keeping, insects and how material from the forest is used for film sets.
Unfortunately we can only accommodate 1500 children, and therefore places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. There will be a nominal charge of £3.50 per pupil.
If your school would be interested in taking part, please call The Crown Estate on 01753 860222 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
This initiative is managed by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, which we have been working with for over five years – to provide a Forest School Outdoor Learning Site in the Great Park.
The scheme is managed by the RBWM’s Early Years team, and enables schools, child-minding groups and nurseries to book a day in the forest. These visits provide young children with the opportunity to learn, discover and explore all areas of the curriculum in a wonderful, outside classroom.
There are 40 dates available to book between March and October. Priority is given to Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead schools, although these dates are available to non-RBWM schools also. At least two of the leading teachers must have completed the RBWM outdoor education training, which is also held in the Forest School.
For more information and details on how to book, please visit the RBWM website.
