Enchanting Christmas activities in The Savill Garden
1 December 2016
The Savill Garden is hosting some very exciting Christmas activities this year. What's more, families can take advantage of free garden entry throughout December, January and February!
In December there will be a special gingerbread trail for children of all ages. Find the gingerbread men and they will tell you all sorts of fascinating facts about winter and Christmas plants. There are games, puzzles and pictures to colour in, fun questions and tasty treats at the end! (£2.50 per trail).
Outside, the Winter Beds are the highlight of The Savill Garden throughout the festive period. The beds feature the national collection of Mahonias, Witch Hazel and pockets of vibrant colours and intense perfume.
December 17 will see the arrival of a huge Edwardian Carousel outside the front of the building. The ride is decorated with hand-carved woodwork, brilliantly cut glass mirrors and polished twisted brass. The carousel will be operating daily from December 17 right through the festive period until January 2 with rides at just £2 each. Before or after you ride, enjoy a warming glass of mulled wine, a bag of hot roasted nuts or a steaming mug of creamy hot chocolate from the Festive Horse box Café!
Inside, children can get creative making Christmas cards in the gallery coffee area, make their mark on the giant Christmas mural. Then, join us in our free pop up cinema! Popcorn and treats will be on sale in the restaurant to enjoy with a selection of festive cartoons.
There will also be an opportunity to create that extra special table centrepiece for the big day itself. Expert guidance and advice from professional florist Natalie Primus, will see you going home with something quite special for the table (£49.50 per head).
Those wanting a jaunt with a real horse can enjoy a festive horse-drawn carriage ride around Windsor Great Park. The Building and Carousel will remain open until 6pm each evening from December 17 to January 2.
Finally, choose your perfect Christmas tree from the spectacular selection grown in Windsor Great Park. Windsor Great Park also offers a mixture of oak, beech and birch firewood, which has been seasoned for a year and has low moisture content. Available from 1 December at The Savill Garden and Forest Gate on the A332.
