The Windsor Estate
The Windsor Estate is a unique operational landscape managed by The Crown Estate. Covering approximately 6,400 hectares (15,800 acres), it stretches for around 10 miles from Windsor Castle in the north to Camberley in the south, and includes Windsor Great Park, Home Park, Sunninghill Park and Swinley Forest.
Shaped by over 1,000 years of history, the Estate brings together ancient Royal parkland, historic monuments, rare wildlife habitats, and National Collections of plants and Champion Trees with a thriving modern, land‑based economy. As one of the UK’s leading rural estates, it supports Farms and a Farm Shop, a vineyard, commercial forestry, residential and commercial lettings, and a diverse business community.
At its heart, Windsor Great Park is an iconic historic landscape enjoyed by millions of visitors each year, while the wider Estate continues to operate as a living, working environment where conservation, commercial activity and public enjoyment are carefully balanced.
Much of the Windsor Estate is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area (SPA) for the Conservation of Wild Birds. As custodians of the land and wildlife, we are committed to achieving Net Zero, and are at the forefront of rural conservation and sustainability initiatives.
Jointly with Sandringham Estate, the Windsor Estate has been awarded the Royal Agricultural Society of England’s (RASE) Bledisloe Gold Medal, recognising outstanding achievement in the successful development and land management of an agricultural estate in England.
The Windsor Estate is also a popular shooting location for television dramas and motion pictures including:
- Christopher Robin
- Bridget Jones’s Baby
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

About The Crown Estate
The Crown Estate is a significant national landowner with a diverse portfolio that includes:
- Urban centres and development opportunities
- One of the largest rural holdings in the country
- Regent Street and St James’s in London’s West End
- The Windsor Estate
We also manage the seabed and much of the coastline around England, Wales and Northern Ireland, playing a major role in the UK’s world leading offshore wind sector.

The Crown Estate is a unique business. Our history goes back to 1760 when George III agreed to surrender to Parliament the net income from Crown lands and hereditary revenue in return for a fixed annual payment. Today, we operate under the Crown Estate Act 1961.

We occupy a space between the public and private sectors, acting independently and commercially to grow the value of the portfolio for the nation.
We are a company for the country and all of our net revenue profit goes to the Treasury for the benefit of the nation’s finances. This has totalled more than £3.2bn over the last ten years.
Through our activities and investments, we create national environmental, social and financial value both for now and into the long term. Our impact includes:
- Playing a significant role in unlocking renewable energy for millions of homes through sectors such as offshore wind and creating opportunities for new technologies like; Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) and hydrogen, to deliver the UK’s energy security transition resulting in thousands of jobs for communities across the UK

- Identifying and creating opportunities for thriving and resilient communities across the country to support regeneration, housing and innovation.
