Obelisk Lawn and Obelisk Pond

A short walk from The Savill Garden & Adventure Play Visitor Centre, you’ll find the Obelisk Lawn and Obelisk Pond.

This is a lovely place to stroll or picnic among the cedars. The lawn is centred around the Cumberland Obelisk and offers beautiful views across the Obelisk Pond.

There is a small children’s play area and a place to buy drinks and snacks on busier days.

The Cumberland Obelisk

Erected in around 1750, the Obelisk stands 17.2 feet (5.25 metres) tall, and is topped by a copper sun sphere. It was raised on the order of King George II in recognition of his son, Prince William, Duke of Cumberland.

Cumberland, who’d led armies in Britain, Europe and the Americas, was Ranger of Windsor Great Park between 1746 and his death in 1765.
