Four people on a red dingy in Virginia Water Lake wearing safety clothing

Water safety day

Every year in the UK, around 400 people die from drowning as a result of an accident in or around water, with thousands more suffering severe and often life-changing injuries.

Many of these accidents are through misadventure by people underestimating the effect that swimming in cold open water can have.

Meet Surrey Police, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and more for live rescue demonstrations and have a go yourself at using a throwline.

Five adults from the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, dressed in safety clothing with a Fire Engine in the background.
